Sodium acetate (liquid)

Sodium acetate, also known as sodium acetate, is an organic compound with the molecular formula CH3COONa and a molecular weight of 82.03. Sodium acetate trihydrate is a white crystalline substance with a relative density of 1.45 and a melting point of 58 ℃. It undergoes weathering in dry air and loses its water of crystallization at 120 ℃. It decomposes at higher temperatures; Anhydrous sodium acetate is a colorless and transparent crystal with a melting point of 324 ℃. Easy to dissolve in water, can be used as a buffering agent, mordant, for the determination of lead, copper, nickel, iron, preparation of culture media, organic synthesis, film printing, etc.

Sodium acetate plays multiple roles in wastewater treatment, including adjusting pH, removing phosphorus, sterilizing, supplementing carbon sources, and improving water quality. ‌

Adjust pH value

Sodium acetate is an alkaline chemical substance that can neutralize acidic ions such as H+and NH4+in water, thereby adjusting the pH value of wastewater and making it more suitable for subsequent biological treatment processes.

Removing phosphorus

Sodium acetate can react chemically with phosphorus to convert it into insoluble phosphate precipitates and promote its sedimentation from wastewater, effectively removing phosphorus pollutants.

sterilization

Sodium acetate has a bactericidal effect and has a significant inhibitory effect on bacteria, yeast, mold, algae, and other microorganisms, which can reduce the number of microorganisms in wastewater and lower the risk of biological pollution.

Supplement carbon sources

Sodium acetate is often used as an external carbon source in biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal processes. Due to the low carbon and high nitrogen phosphorus characteristics of many urban sewage, the addition of sodium acetate can increase the carbon/nitrogen ratio in the sewage, promote the growth and reproduction of denitrifying bacteria, accelerate the denitrification reaction process, and help reduce the total nitrogen content in the sewage.

Improving water quality

The addition of sodium acetate can improve the overall water quality of wastewater by removing or reducing harmful substances such as organic matter and heavy metals through its chemical and biological effects, making the treated water clearer and safer.
